For my first blog post, I'd like to explain why my business is called Wishing Wellness (and basically reiterate the section on the site with the same name).
Recently in Dr. Mercola's newsletter, there was an article about how people should avoid the word 'wish". The article suggests 'wish' is a word without commitment. It's inactive and self-deceptive.
I disagree. I like the term "wish" because it carries a sense of wonder and awe. In childhood we think of wishing as something magical, and that's a positive connotation I choose to embrace. I like the idea of envisioning wishes about your health and wellness. Consider this wishing with intention. Not the fluffy wish that is lumped with the "try" and the "should"...but a goal, a vision. Wishes become a focus, and a focus invests you in achieving results.
A blog post by See Your Life also thinks 'wish' is a word to avoid. But you know what? We all have our own path to follow, and for me, 'wish' is my chosen word. In your own visualization, you can use words such as "I deserve", or "I have" if this feels more authentic for you.
But my choosing the business name Wishing Wellness is many faceted. I love the symbolism in wishing wells.
When I was a little girl, my grandmother had what I considered a magical garden. An Adirondack chair overlooked bright orange fish swimming in a small pond, while a lath house filled with fuchsias dripped flower buds that I could pop. There were Birds of Paradise set against green shutters, and a clothesline I used like a gymnasium.
And there was a wishing well.
Wishing you well. Wishing upon a star. Wishcasting dreams, goals, hopes.
Wells in myths and stories inspire tales of purity--water as a life force. Toss a coin into the wishing well and your dreams might come true. In European folklore, water was a scarce treasure, so wells were thought to house dieties. Wishing on a well was asking and honoring the deity in residence.
Also, the definition of 'well' is reservoir, or an abundant source. Intuitively within you are the keys to unlock your wishes and make them reality. I will be offering art workshops with collage and mosaic, to help people visually realize their wishes. We'll create Wish Boards, Wish Journals, and Wish Quilts. We'll be making a deck of cards that speaks your inner voice about what you need to do to improve your health and well being. Visualization means focusing on your goals--giving yourself a tangible tool to aid you reaching where you want to go and who you want to become.
What are your wishes?

Congratulations on your new career path, Barb! Way to go, girl! I'm with you on the word "Wish". Goals, dreams, visualization, imagination - whatever else you want to call it - it all comes down to wishing for something better in life, right?
My own wish right now is for Ken to regain his health enough for us to spend a few more years together.
I also wish I didn't have arthritis, but that's not the kind of wish that you are referring to!
Love your new blog - it's on my favorites, and I'll give it a write up on my blog too. Good luck with it all!
Thank you for your insightful words and i agree "We all have our own path to follow, and for me, 'wish' is my chosen word. In your own visualization, you can use words such as "I deserve", or "I have" if this feels more authentic for you" And thank you for the reminder to be strong and follow our own paths because that is the right place for us to be, not where others say is the right place.
